Hippie Vibe

Lately, I have observed myself growing fond of a style-the hippie style-that I never ever thought I'd wear. It's not that I hated it before; in fact, I've always thought that it's a bold statement and thus already admirable for that reason alone, if not for anything else. But as I have said, I never thought I'd personally wear them simply because I never thought I could pull it off nor that I'd have the confidence to wear them in public. But people change, I guess and we become open to things we once restricted ourselves from. And for me, that's one of the greatest surprises in life- that discovery that we're no longer the same person we once were. So, here I am, trying something new.

What I'm Wearing: Mandarin Collar Shirt (H&M), Long Shirt (H&M), Joggers (H&M), Mandals (Zalora Basic), Necklaces (F&H)

But before anything else, what is a hippie style? I wouldn't pretend that I know a lot about it since I just  started truly liking it. But here's what encyclopedia.com has to say about it, and I quote "hippie style included long, flowing hair for both men and women, and often beards for men. Since hippies rejected the modern American mainstream, ethnic clothes were popular, as were old-fashioned styles. Both men and women commonly wore headbands, floppy hats, flowing scarves, and beads with blue jeans or bell-bottoms and tie-dyed T-shirts. Rebelling against corporate culture meant making clothes or buying cheaply at thrift shops and military surplus stores, so clothes were often ragged and patched or embroidered. Flowered clothing and embroidery were popular, and flowers became an important hippie symbol because hippies revered and felt connected to nature."

Having said that, I guess the next question is, what did I like about this particular style? Well, for one thing, it's very comfortable. You could walk around in jogger or whatever loose pants and still look stylish as hell. Second, and as I have mentioned, it's so bold and thus eye-poping. I mean, since such style was developed to make a statement, I guess it's no surprise that it involves wearing a lot of bright colours, oversized clothing, and in-your-face prints and patterns. Third, it's very unique. Like, how many people do you know that sports such style on a daily basis? And lastly, it fosters individuality. Since it was developed to rebel against mainstream society, it implants that thinking that you don't have to conform to what is "normal" simply because it is the only way.

But to be honest, I still don't think I'm fully confident on sporting such a style. That's why you could probably sense some reservation on my part on putting up this particular outfit. But it's a start, I guess.
